Monday Double

Wincanton 14:50 - Earth Planet
2m 4f, Class 5 Maiden Hurdle - Soft

A drop in class and trip means this is the perfect opportunity for Earth Planet to get off the mark this season. Trained by the Champion, it is rare for a talented hurdler of his not to get at least a single victory in the form line and with very decent form behind the high class Cryptic this looks like the time to get on!
WON 7/4

A lovely ride by Ruby Walsh! He kept Earth Planet wide throughout the race (as he did with most of his other rides), possibly looking for the better ground. This artistic rider let the front two go a reasonable distance ahead before closing in on them rounding the turn where he pulled quite some distance away to win very stylishly. Novice chasing awaits.

Remember the price quoted above is the SP. The Analyst backs all his selections at 10:30am with BET365, knowing if the horse drifts throughout the day we get the bigger SP.

Wincanton 15:50 - Harris Bay
2m 6f, Class 3 Handicap Hurdle - Soft

The Henrieta Knight trained Harris Bay is still off an attractive hurdling mack despite his run away victory over C&D last time. Ultra consistent over both timber and fences, he is taken to still be ahead of the handicapper and once again teaming up with Timmy Murphy (7 wins from 10 rides) he looks great value to get the better of the Paul Nicholls trained Iroquois Warrior.
P/U 9/2

Never got in a blow! Travelling out the back for much of the race, Harris Bay never really appeared to be going very well. Always going the shortest way Timmy Murphy couldn't get a tune out of his mount and was eventually pulled up in the home straight.

29 Mar 2008

Saturday Double...

Newbury 15:25 - Castlecrossings E/W
2m 5f, Class 1 Mares Novices' Handicap Hurdle - Soft

The Jonjo O'Neill trained Castlecrossings is a tough, improving mare that will relish todays testing conditions. Longer trip and softer conditions look ideal, and she will take all the beating today under the talanted Champion Jock, whose hungry for more success.
2ND 4/1

An almost perfic ride by the champ, nearly landed the Analyst with a timely boost, however the the Impressive Jaunty Flight produced a gutsy performance under top weight. The front two pulled 12l's clear of the 3rd and if our selection didn't hang right under pressure we may have got even closer to Oliver Sherwoods tough Mare.

Nad Al Sheba 15:55 - Floral Pegasus E/W
1m 1f, Class 1 Dubai Duty Free (Group 1)

The Hong Kong trained Floral Pegasus, has been mega consistent this season and is sure to run his race. Close up to Darjina in December, Cruz's gelding looks a great E/W bet and is well drawn and likely to race right up with the pace.
UP 14/1

Having raced keenly throughout our selection actually did well to rally again and finish a close up 7th under the harding working Gerard Mosse. The French trained filly Darjina, (mentioned above) at least hel up the previous form by finishing a strong 2nd @ 5/1.

28 Mar 2008

Friday Double...

Newbury 13:40 – Nevada Royale
3m, Class 4 Novices’ Hurdle – Good to Soft, Good in Places

Paul Nicholls + Novices + Newbury = WINNER. A trends track were the Ditchet trainer is def. one to follow. The Analyst was really taken by Nevada Royale’s performance at Exeter last time, and although this HUGE horse is a definitely a chaser In the making, he has more than enough ability to win races like this along the way.
PU 4/6F

A strange race ran at a breakneck pace early doors meant very little got into the contest. Nevada Royale emptied quicker than barrell of Guiness at The Cheltenham Festival and stopped to a walk.

Newbury 14:10 – Dragon Eye
2m 5f, Class 3 Maiden Hurdle – Good to Soft, Good in Places

Could this be the next quality staying hurdler to come out of the in-form Alan King yard? Consistent enough in his bumpers, The wonderfully named Dragon Eye showed more than enough ability, when finishing a close 2nd to the potentially high class Galient at Folkestone last time. With a galloping, staying track like Newbury sure to suit, the selection is taken to get the better of the Philip Hobbs trained Ballydub(WON 8/1)
UR 3/1

Another horse fell in front of ours, ours freaked out and shipped an un-happy Christian Williams out the side door!! Whatever, Bothered, Always the Same... Oh and the winner... BUGGER!!

26 Mar 2008

Thursday Double...

Exeter 14:50 - Or Bleu
2m 3f, Class 3 Handicap Hurdle - Good to Soft, Soft in Places

The form is in the book for Philip Hobbs Chestnut who will relish the step back up in trip and today's perfect conditions. A close up 3rd over this course to the Alan King trained and highly progressive Oh Crick, means he should have the beating of that geldings stable mate Rood Report. Or Bleu was last seen over today's trip in Dec 07 when finishing under a length 2ND to a decent yardstick in Overclear. Back in third that day was Greenbridge who won so impressively yesterday.
WON 7/2

Left in the lead at the last, a power pact ride from Richard Johnson ensured that our selection got up by a neck from the fast finishing Purple Patch. Could this be the start of The Analysts very own purple patch... well, we were due some luck!

Exeter 15:55 - Pur De Sivola
2m 3f, Class 3 Novices' Chase - Good to Soft, Soft in Places

As long as there are no ill affects from his fall at Kempton last time, this should be a penalty kick for Alan Kings gelding. The Class horse in the field, we might just get a reasonable price with the Philip Hobbs trained Oceanos des Obeaux likely to chase the selection home in 2ND.
4th 4/6f

In a good enough position throughout, Pur De Sivola could only stay on one paced to finish 4th by just over 10 lengths. This could be the bare minimum for a horse that clearly gallops and looks as though it will get further in time. All in all a dissapointing end to what looked a sure fire double.

Wednesday Double...

Kempton 14:10 - Procas De Thaix
2m, Class 4 Novices' Hurdle - Good to Soft

Nicky Henderson's inmate looks as though he could be a progressive type following his first couple of runs. Don't be put off by the 120 day absence as the trainer always gets them ready. A course and distance victory last time out and a very tidy run against Alan King's Theatre Girl makes this chestnut gelding one to be on your side today.

2nd 11/10f

Never really travelling and with vital mistakes at the 4th & 5th flights, Procas De Thiax ran on gamely but never troubled an impressive winner from the Alan King yard. Greenbridge ran on to score by a distance.

Kempton 15:50 - Pace Shot
2m 5f, Handicap Hurdle - Good to Soft

Well i don't know if you have noticed anything similar about today's selections yet but we are going for an owner double! Good luck to Mr Green and connections. Pace Shot has been running in some fine company this season and in fact all his life. 14 lengths 3rd to Backboard last time and 15 lengths behind Wingman the time before doesn't read too badly to me. Yes he has to prove that he really stays this trip but I thought he was staying on last time at Ascot and the course today will definately help. On the form book he has a great chance at what The Analyst thinks could be a nice price!
UP 7/2F

A mistake 2 out put pay to Pace Shots chances as he looked to have every chance under resiliant Philip Hide ride. Another game performance from a horse who always runs his race and deserves to pick up a win before the seasons out.

24 Mar 2008

Tuesday Double...

Fairyhouse 15:50 - Psycho
2m, Handicap Hurdle - Yielding

Tony Martins progressive Gelding Psycho was some peoples idea of the "Irish Banker" of the Cheltenham Festival and barring a 50/1 shock it may well have been. Psycho finished 2nd to Silver Jaro in the County Hurdle and sets the standard in today's handicap hurdle at Fairyhouse. Looking for some quick compensation The Analyst cant see past the selection who should win easily if not hampered by the laid back Davey Russell and a "Mossbank" style ride.
UP 13/8f

"Who should win easily if not hampered by the laid back Davey Russell and a "Mossbank" style ride" Well I will let you make your own minds up, although it did look like some of the spark was missing after a hard race at the festival. Psycho ran on too late to finish a well beaten 8th, dissapointing show.

Fontwell 15:55 - Burren Legend
2m 6f, Class 3 Novices' Chase - Soft, Good to Soft

Burren Legend is as consistent as they come and is guaranteed to run his race when many of his rivals have several question marks against their form. With the Paul Nicholl's trained Robin De Sherwood (Formerly Tipped) heading the market, today's selection will be a nice price and looks the one to be on with ground and trip ideal.
WON 6/5f

A dissapointing SP for a horse that was forecast to go off around the 4/1 mark. However 2 non-runners and little support for Robin De Sherwood meant that our selection was the one to be on. Jumping won the day as Burren Legend, out jumped and out stayed his rivals to score easily.

21 Mar 2008

Saturday Double...

After a spell with Ms Whinehouse and co. The Analyst is out of rehab and looking to be back amongst the winners. Totally rehabilitated? Possibly not seeing as the first half of today's' double is on the level, however you have to be seen to move with the times and with spring round the corner, we look forward to the upcoming flat season...

Doncaster 16:00 - Vitznau
1m, Class 2 Lincoln Handicap (str) - Good to Soft

Richard Hannon is a trainer to follow early season and especially in the big handicaps. He saddles Vitznau in the first big race of the turf flat season who looks to have a very lively chance of taking the spoils if building on a promosing 2006. A winner at Epsom and Chester last year, (both in soft ground) this exciting colt will relish both the underfoot conditions and step in trip as he looks to weave his way through this talented field of 22.
UP 9/1

Not much to say about the race really! After the first few races it was clear that being drawn high was a slight advantage and so it proved. Vitznau ran ok for a first season run and i'm sure there will be more to come in the future. Travelling in mid division on the far side Vitznau never picked up with any great zest but still finished just outside the places.

Haydock 13:00 - Lease Lend
2m 4f, Fixed Brush Novices' Handicap Hurdle - Good to Soft, Soft in Places

"A chaser in the making" are the quotes coming out of the Tim Easterby camp ahead of tommorows unique Haydock Race. Lease Lend is as consistent as they come, having never finished out of the 1st 3 in any race he has completed. Pulled Up last time when looking booked for a place again, the Gelding reportedly finished lame after making a mistake at the last. Having been sound at home since, we are backing the selection to bounce back to winning ways and go in at a massive price today.
FELL 18/1

It's safe to say that The Analyst was 'sick' after watching the selection fall 2 out and in his opinion looking the sure fire winner. Having travelled beautifully throughout in the middle of the pack and with only one minor error at one of his obstacles Lease Lend moved stylishly into contention in the second half of the race. Rounding the turn for home and the selection took it up. At this point The Analyst got a wee bit excited...........well it's not everyday you get 20/1 shot with a real chance! 4lengths up and two to jump and well you know the rest, GUTTED!

Cheltenham Memories...

Cheltenham Hangover...

Cheltenham Hangover…

The Analyst Is now on holiday… well actually, he’s missing in action! Having posted Saturdays disappointing double from the Guinness tent at Cheltenham, he has not been seen since!!

What a 3 days though, especially Thursday & Friday, with 19 champion races in a bumper 2 days!! Having said that 19 races is harder than you think, especially from a punting point of view, oh and when you are on a G&T a race!!

A big thank you to all the boys that were there, and especially the owner of Lough Derg, William Frewen, for making my first Cheltenham experience so memorable…

The Analyst should be back after the Bank Holiday weekend (Tues 25th) to pick up his daily doubles…

15 Mar 2008

Saturday Double...

Uttoxeter 13:50 - Prideus
2m, Class 2 Novices' Handicap Hurdle - Good to Soft, Soft In Places

Friends with the owners of the exciting Prideus, The Analyst looks to get back to winning ways with todays double. Running for the in-form combination of Alan King & Richard Thornton, Prideus looks the class animal in the field and should score readily today. With stable mate Zilcash being left in the field, our selection gets in with a feather weight of 10st 2lb. This talented 4 year old, is a chaser in the making but has more than enough quality to pick up prizes over timber like this on the way.

Uttoxeter 14:20 - Stagecoach Opal
3m, Class 2 Novices' Handicap Chase - Good to Soft

Stagecoach Opal, deserves to win a race of this nature and look as solid selection off a light racing weight. Only 2lb higher than when last scoring over fences, Sue Smiths gelding will take all the beating if reproducing his effort last time about behind the progressive Shardakhan.

10 Mar 2008

Cheltenham 2008...

CHELTENHAM 2008...

Tuesday 11th March - E/W Double...

Cheltenham 14:35 - Tidal Bay 5/1
2m, Class 1 Arkle Independant Chase - Good to Soft

This enigmatic animal has been called a few names in his debut season over fences, but don't let that put you off backing him as he is one of the most talented up and coming chasers around. He's only lost once this season and that was by a neck to a fellow competitor on Tuesday, Leslingtaylor. Yes he lost that race due to two jumping errors, the last of which was a fairly serious one that cost him the race, but I feel that too much has been said and written about his jumping that just isn't fair. A helter-skelter 2 miles around Cheltenham (where we know he acts) should enable him to get into a rhythm with his so called 'bad jumping'. He travels well in his races and I expect him to be bang in there coming up the hill. His jockey Denis O' Regan described him as 'electric' in his last bit of work, let’s hope so and that he proves his doubters wrong.

WON 6/1

Cheltenham 17:20 - Harry Tricker 12/1
2m, Class 1 Fred Winter Novices' Handicap Hurdle - Good to Soft

Harry Tricker has been progressing nicely this season culminating in a victory last time out which is a good trend for this race. His form looks reasonably solid with place efforts behind the likes of Doubly Guest, Pierrot Lunaire (who just got touched off by Binocular) and Serabad who hasn't been beaten far by Triumph Hurdle favourite, Franchoek. At a very attractive price Gary Moore's runner looks the one to be on.

UP 16/1

Is this Harchibald's year...? The Analyst thinks if the ground is good it might just be!!

Wednesday 12th March - E/W Double...

Cheltenham 14:35 - Air Force One 6/1
3m, Class 1 Royal & SunAlliance Chase - Good to Soft

The Analyst has a bit of a soft spot for this horse and it's easy to see why when you set eyes on this striking chestnut. With facile victories at Folkestone and then Fontwell it was only at Ascot in the Reynoldstown that the selection proved he was worth a place towards the head of today’s market. Although not winning that particular contest he was an eye catching second staying on strongly to finish under 2 lengths behind Albertas Run. With proven course form, after a brilliant second at last year’s festival behind Wichita Lineman he is a strong fancy to land a blow.

UP 6/1

Cheltenham 17:20 - Apt Approach 4/1
2m, Class 1 Weatherby’s Champion Bumper NH Flat Race - Good to Soft

The Bumper! Well what can I say? The selection fits pretty much all the trends you require when coming into this special race. He's Irish, he's a five year old, he'll be in the first six in the betting and more importantly he's trained by Willie Mullins! Although Mr. Mullins has a whole host of others entered in the 2m contest, vibes are that this is the one to be on. Having only raced once before this season, he couldn’t have been more impressive, scoring by 14 lengths. The runner up has franked the form winning next timeout. And if all that wasn’t enough, just one more stat to leave you with, Willie Mullins is the only trainer to have won this race with a horse that's only made one previous appearance........ He has done this a staggering 4 times!!!

UP 4/1

Mullin's... the man with the Midas touch?

Thursday 13th March - E/W Double…

The World at his Feet?

The Analyst is on The Drever ante-post... but would love to see Lough Derg chase him home in 2nd and secure the Order of Merit!

Cheltenham 14:00 - Something Wells 12/1
2m 5f, Jewson Novices' Chase - Good to Soft

Thursday at the festival is Ladies Day so it's only right that today’s double includes two lady trainers, working at the tops of their games. Something Wells goes in the first for Venetia Williams after a successful season so far including two wins and an encouraging 2nd last time out over C&D. Carrying an attractive racing weight and with Sam Thomas likely to be aboard, this bay gelding has everything in his favour to run a big race at a big price.

FELL 16/1

Cheltenham 17:20 - Backboard 6/1
3m, Class 1 Pertemps Final Handicap Hurdle - Good to Soft

Lucy Wadham is our lady in waiting, to hopefully land the Thursday double. She teams up with jockey Dominic Elsworth and the tough gelding Backboard in the lucky last. Consistently running well this year, Backboard steps back up in trip to 3 miles which is sure to suit. Backboard never seems to run a bad race and with a fast pace likely to be set, he will be ridden patiently to stay on up the Prestbury Park hill.

PU 8/1

Backboard... Jumping to Glory!

Friday 14th March - E/W Double...

Cheltenham 16:00 - Agus A Vic 4/1
3m 2f, Class 2 Christies' Foxhunter Chase - Good to Soft

The Patrick Martin trained Agus A Vic, is a rock solid selection in a race that looks there for the taking. This tough 7 year old has had 3 wins and two 2nds from 5 career starts and should provide the Irish and The Analyst with another festival winner. Staying on over 3m at Leopardstown last time, this step up in trip and emphasis on stamina should bring about even further improvement for the gelding out of formerly high class Old Vic.

FELL 5/1

Cheltenham 17:10 - Theatre Girl 5/1
2m 4f, Class 1 David Nicholson Mares Hurdle - Good to Soft

What better way to bring down the curtain on what is sure to be another awesome festival than with an emotional winner for Alan King in the race named after his former boss? Theatre Girl arrives at the festival never having been out of the first three in 8 career starts. Alan King speaks very highly of his tough mare, stating that both the step up in trip and demands of the Cheltenham Course will bring out even further improvement to her racing. That said she is taken to reverse the Doncaster form with Chomba Womba and land the Friday Double.

UP 9/2

The Analyst is backing Kauto Star to make it three in a row in the Cheltenham Gold Cup!!

Saturday E/W Double...

Sandown 15:15 - Halla San E/W
2m, Class 1 Handicap Hurdle - Good

Richard Johnson gets the leg up on Halla San and the progressive gelding who has everything in his favour to run a big race today. Seeking the Hatrick, Halla San has won impressively at Musselburgh in his last two outings.
UP 8/1

Ridden patiently, Halla San never really quickened when asked to by Richard Johnson. This was a day to be up in the van with very little coming from off the pace. The eventual winner Ashkazar was never headed by another horse in the race and ran on to win by 3 & 1/2 lengths under a fantastic Murphy ride.

Sandown 15:50 - Shali San E/W
2m, Class 1 Mares' NH Flat Race - Good

The David Pipe trained Shali San, was an impressive winner at Chepstow on her debut in ground that was probably far from ideal. Well thought of at the yard, owner and trainer have had this race in mind for some time and the mare is taken to get the better of the Nicky Henderson trained Ravello Bay, on a day when it normally pays to be on the side of the Pipes.

UP 10/1

Another hold up performance that failed as a tactic in todays conditions. Shali San took a keen hold and never really settled in a race that wasnt helped by a muddling pace.

7 Mar 2008

Friday Double...

Leicester 14:20 – Down’s Folly
2m 4f, Class 4 Beginners’ Chase – Good

Nikola attempts to lose an unwanted bridesmaid tag at the 7th time of asking today however the Analyst is again looking to spoil the party as he is backing Down’s Folly to catch the bouquet!! A decent 4th last time out behind the tough Comber down in class today puts Henry Daly’s Charge in with a huge shout down in class.
2nd 7/2

The offical distance was a neck... however I reckon this one for the new school and could quite easily have been called a nose! Guttsy performance by both Down's Folly & Nikola, however it was the latter that just prevailed in a thrilling finish.

Sandown 14:40 – Newton Bridge
2m 4f, Class 3 Handicap Chase – Good

George Elliot’s Newton Bridge is still un-exposed over fences and looks reasonably treated to add to his 4 victories so far this year. 2m 4f on decent ground is ideal after being found out over too short a trip last time. Timmy Murphy gets the leg up on his only ride of the day.

2nd 13/8f

Our selection Newton Bridge was backed off the boards before the off having opened a tempting 15/8. However it was the Captain J. Snowden who stole the show aboard Mighty Matters on Forces Day at Sandown.

6 Mar 2008

Thursday Double...

Lingfield 14:30 – Pascha Bere
2m, Class 4 Novices’ Hurdle – Good

Nick Gifford’s Pascha Bere was an impressive winner last time out at Folkestone and has had the form franked by subsequent winner Your Amount (Tipped on Friday) and a good second on the same card from Poliglotti. This looks an ideal opportunity for, this gelding to notch back to back wins and provide, The Analyst with some much needed spending money for the festival.
2nd 5/4f

Wincanton 17:00 – Seafield Boogie
2m 5f, Class 6 Hunter’s Chase – Good

The inform Tom George, saddles Seafield Boogie In a weak looking Hunter Chase. A race sponsored by the Champion trainer, wont take much winning and this Gelding has run consistent enough this year behind some nice types to deserve getting his nose in front.

5 Mar 2008

Wednesday Double...

Fontwell 15:00 - Massini Sunset
2m 4f, Class 5 Handicap Chase - Soft, Good to Soft in Places

This looks a poor race and i'll be dissapointed if the selection doesn't pick up here! He has course and distance form to his name and appears to get on very well with his amateur jockey, Mr C Huxley. Don't pay too much attention to his last run as he was just badly hampered when appearing to get into the race. Dropped in grade today I urge you to get on!
UP 15/8f

Our selection missed the break and got left behind at the start. Always held up to try and get back in the race, Massini Sunset stayed on a one paced 5th and never got into the mixer on what was clearly not a going day.

Catterick 15:20 - Cheer Us On
2m, Class 4 Maiden Chase - Good to Firm, Good in Places

Not too long to wait for the second half of the double today so here goes. Second last time out on Boxing Day, that wasn't a bad effort behind Sculastic from the Howard Jonhnson yard. The favourite Media Man looks frustrating and potentially exposed so with a nice round of jumping our selection could go very close to opening his account over fences.
UR 4/1

Held up and going nicely enough, Cheer Us On came to grief at the 3rd obstacle after a bad blunder and unseated young Mr Greenall. One to keep an eye on for a quick reapearance.

4 Mar 2008

Tuesday Double...

Newcastle 14:50 - Noble Alan
2m, Class 4 Novices' Hurdle - Good, Good to Firm in Places

Nicky Richards saddles the exciting Noble Alan, who looks a good thing to get off the mark over timber today. With a cloud hanging over the Howard-Johnson yard, we will take on Kealshore Boy who is not sure to be suited by the faster ground.
WON 8/11f

A thanks must go to Howard-Johnson for the involvement of his gelding Professor Higgins and the role he played as a pace maker. Graham Wylie's 2nd string set a decent clip that played right into the hands of our selection who needs exactly that to quicken from. Given a decent tow, Noble Alan, sat 3rd for most of the way round, before jumping the 2nd last in-front and after being shaken up went on to win his race by 1 3/4l.

Newcastle 16:50 - Stagecoach Opal
3m, Class 3 Novices' Handicap Chase - Good Good to Firm in Places

Sue Smiths consistent Stagecoach Opal, deserves to win a race this campaign and this looks to be the perfect opportunity. A repeat of his last performance when 4l second to the impressive Shardakhan at Huntingdon will be good enough to take todays contest.
NR

Eye Cathers;

Mickmacmagoole makes a quick reappearance after yesterdays flop, however the Analyst will not be saying third time lucky... So watch this hack up!! Amber Brook, part of last Fridays double is back out today but dropped 7 furlongs in trip we will take a watching brief with this one.

3 Mar 2008

Monday Double...

Stratford 14:30 - Your Amount
2m, Class 4 Maiden Hurdle - Good

Alan King's, Your Amount was a reasonable 3rd of 16 behing the Nick Gifford trained Pascha Bere at Folkestone last time out. That was only the geldings 2nd run over timber and first back at the Alan King yard after a spell with Willie Musson. He had stable companion Poliglotti a further 7l's behind him on that occasion and the former is currently the 7/4 favourite for the 2nd Division of this event. Both charges look to have oustanding chances, but at a price we will go with Your Amount to get us over our normal Monday Blues.

WON 9/4f

A gutsy performance from Your Amount, who quickened nicely when asked to go and win his race by Choc Thornton. Always travelling up in the van, he led jumping the 2nd last and ran on to win by 3 1/2l from Noble Future. The Analyst was on early and grabbed 11/4 as Alan Kings charge returned the well backed 9/4f.

Stratford 16:00 - Mickmacmagoole
2m 3f, Class 4 Novices' Handicap Hurdle - Good

The Analyst likes to give his selections the chance to redeem themselves, largely because he would kick himself if they won, but also to try and prove he wasnt that far wrong in the first instance. Looking back at his previous race review, leads us to believe that both the step up in trip and drop in class are the two ingredients that that will prove our selection to be a recipe for success.
UP 9/2

Never really travelling or jumping Mickmacmagoole looks a gelding low on confidence and still suffering after a fall at Cheltenham 3 starts ago. A horse clearly with ability, Evan Williams job is now to focus his charges mind back on jumping and to fall in love with the game once more. 3 strikes?

1 Mar 2008

Stat Attack...

The Analyst had another week that ended in positive and saw us land our biggest price double so far, a very healthy 8/1!

5 winners from 18 runners saw us end week 7 with a 27.7% strike rate and a return of £2.15 to a £1 level stake.

Friday's certainly seem to be a day to follow The Analysts, with 9 winners from 19 bets giving us a massive 47% strike rate on that day.

9 Days and counting to Cheltenham...

Be lucky,

The Analyst

Saturday Double...

Newbury 14:05 - Count Kristo
2m 2f, Class 3 Novices' Handicap Hurdle - Good to Soft, Good in Places

Brendan Powell saddles the highly consistent Count Kristo at Newbury today in an attempt to go one better than last time out when he was a close up 2nd to the talented Major Euro over course and distance. Dominic Elsworth gets the leg up on the tough 6 year old, who is taken to get the better of David Pipes, Cadoulitique.

2nd 11/8f

Another gutsy performance from Count Kristo who looked as though he could be the one to end Brendan Powells 38 race losing streak. However it was the "huge" Island Flyer for the inform Tom George that stayed on nicely on his chase debut to win by 8l.

Doncaster 14:25 - Lothian Falcon
3m, Class 2 Handicap Hurlde - Good

Robert Walford gets on tremendously well with this consistent gelding who looks well treated to return from a 66 day break and continue his winning ways. A seperate course and distance winner, Lothian Falcon looks to combine a C&D today and land this class 2 event.
4th 15/8f

They went an absolute crawl in this 3 mile hurdle which didn't suit our selection at all. It turned into a sprint turning for home and Lothian Spirit was just caught out, staying on a one paced 4th.
