Wednesday Double...

Newcastle 13:30 – Oh Pickles
3m, Class 3 Novices’ hurdle – Soft

The progressive Oh Pickles looks to give weight away all-round in today’s staying Novice’s Hurdle at Newcastle. Staying on to win over an inadequate trip last time, Denis O’regan’s mount should relish the stamina sapping test. Denis will be happy to know that he only has to negotiate two circuits of the Gosforth Park track as he looks to put the events of Fakenham on Monday well behind him.

P/U 8/1

With bottomless ground this 3 mile trip was always going to take some getting. Today was a day for backing winning distances as the field (well 9 of the 16 that went to post) finished strung out like washing on a windy day. Denis O'regan's mount was never really travelling and was pulled up when well beaten. As much as Oh Pickles is said to need a trip, connections may well look for better ground next time out.

Newcastle 14:05 – Negus de Beaumont
3m, Class 2 Graduation Chase – Soft

Negus de Beaumont is an improving stayer. A good 6th of 20 behind Wichita Lineman at the festival last year was a fitting end to a good campaign. Just one appearance this year saw him finish a close 2nd at Uttoxeter with the front two pulling well clear of the rest of the field. That was over today’s trip in Heavy ground so a repeat performance should see him go one better and get off the mark over fences.
Fell 11/10

Not much to say about this one as our tip didn't make it over the first obstacle. Backed all-day the favourite gave too much air to the first flight and landing steeply couldn't get it's front legs out of the very heavy ground. Money Trix went onto win impressively however he was never really given a race. We look out for a quick reappearance from Negus de Beaumont if he's none the worse for his tumble.
