Wednesday Double...
Chester 13:45 - Doncaster Rover
5f, Class 2 Conditional Stakes - Good, Good to Soft in Places
Doncaster Royal, made an impressive start to her career when a very decent 2nd of 19 at Doncaster in March. Travelling strongly that day, the bay colt clocked a very reasonable time and looks the type to improve from the experience. Well drawn and with plenty early speed, Dettori's mount is taken to get the better of the hat-trick seeking She's a Shaw Thing.
WON 3/1
Always up with the pace as you have to be at Chester, Frankie Dettori set the bay colt alight with 1f to go and that was that! The favourite never struck a blow and Aspin Darlin who started very slowly stayed on nicely for 2nd.
Chester 14:15 - Sugar Mint
1m 3f, Class 1 Cheshire Oaks - Good, Good to Soft in Places
Sugar Mint, fits the bill of a type likely to progress as a 3 year old and provide Barry Hills with yet another winner of this race. The Lambourn based trainer thrives at this meeting and with a 20% strike rate in the last 14 days, this looks another one to be on! Decent form as a 2 year old, (2l's 4th behind the 1000 Guineas 2nd Spacious) this filly was given a confidence boosting start at Bath this term and should take all the beating today.
2ND 5/2
Held up for most of the race, Sugar Mint was always in touch with the leaders travelling well. He was sent about doing his business with just under 2f to go and at that point kicked clear, however Mr. Murtagh had his say in this as Sail made stealthy headway with 1f to go and picked up our selection in some style. Sugar Mint reportadly, swallowed her tounge late on in the contest probably putting pay to any chance she had. Sail could be a filly of some potential and both her and Sugar Mint will now head to the Oaks at Epsom, just this time our selection will wear a tounge-tie.
