Royal Ascot Friday Double...

Ascot 15:05 - Bronze Cannon
1m 4f, Class 1 King Edward Vii Stakes (Group 2) - Good to Firm, Firm in Places

John Gosden's horses are flying at present and the fact that this horse was entered for the Derby, yet saved for Royal Ascot should tell you all you need to know. Progressive with every outing this year, my attention is suddenly brought to the form of his Newmarket outing in the spring when he disposed of the subsequent Derby 4Th Doctor Freemantle. Guaranteed to get the trip, Jimmy Fortunes mount is a confident selection at a very decent price. (Early Price 4/1)

Ascot 15:45 - Spacious
1m, Class 1 Coronation Stakes (Fillies' Group 1) - Good to Firm, Firm in Places

A firm favourite of The Analyst's James Fanshaw's fillie was an Un-lucky loser in the 1000 Guineas and can claim her prize today under the classy Jamie Spencer. With Infallible and Lush Lushes having plenty to find and Jamie making more use of her speed on the drying ground I can only see one outcome and hopefully another Double landed. (Early Price 3/1)

Saturday Double...

Lingfield 14:40 - Look Here
1m 3f, Class 1 Listed Oaks Trial Stakes - Good to Firm

Trials day at Lingfield on the turf and first we start with the girls and the Ralph Beckett trained Look Here. Related to last years winner out of the same yard, Ralph knows the time of day when it comes to high class fillies. Taking on the previously tipped up Jazz Jam (part of the 33/1 double) and the Aiden O'Brien trained Ice Queen, Look Here is potentially high class and looks the one to beat. With just one run last year, she was mightily impressive when landing a maiden at Salisbury by 2/12 lengths from Doctor Fremantle... Hmmm where have I heard that name before? (Click form tag below to find out) (Early Price 11/4f)
2ND 2/1

Allowed a soft lead and to set a pedestrian pace Miracle Seeker, quickened from the front and won by 3/4l to our selection, a staying on Look Here. There was never enough pace in the race for Seb Saunders mount to quicken from and this was a trappy affair where very few got in to the contest.

Lingfield 15:10 - Alessandro Volta
1m 3f, Class 1 Group 3, Derby Trial Stakes - Good to Firm

The turn of the colts and a small but talanted field have been assembled for this interesting trial. Even before Luca Cumani's colt was withdrawn due to the ground, The Analyst was drawn to the Aiden O'Brien trained Alessandro Volta. An impressive winner on firm ground at the end of last season, there were excuses at Leopardstown last time when the saddle slipped at Jockey Johnny Murtagh was just a passenger for the majority of the trip. Happy to take on the improving Campanologist until Saeed sin Suroor's charges start winning, we side with Alessandro Volta even at the shortened overnight price. (Early Price 13/8)
WON 6/4F

Wandering around like a punch drunk boxer, Alessandro Volta seemed to get at least the 1m 4f, on offer today and may even prove to be another strong stayer for the O'Brien yard. Another messy affair, where they crawled early on and sprinted up the home straight, this looked a fairly weak Derby trial and and I'm not sure it will shake up the Ante Post market too much.

Thursday Double...

Goodwood 14:30 - Doughnut
5f, Class 2 Conditions Stakes - Good

MMMMMmmm Doughnuts... The 2 Richards combine to attempt to hit another "Homer" and grab the 14:30 Conditional Stakes at Goodwood. Hughes and Hannon team up with the wonderfully named Doughnut, whose impressive display on debut at Folkestone in April means this filly is one to keep an eye on this year. Very decent on the clock in less than ideal ground, she beat a decent yard stick in Riflessione by a short head and is very much the one to beat today. (Early Price 7/4)
3rd 6/4F

After getting a very clean start, Doughnut took a keen hold and was surprisingly restrained by Richard Hughes. Allowing Icesolator to get first run, our selection never quickened when asked and finished a frustrating 3l's back in 3rd.

Chester 14:45 - Doctor Freemantle
1m 4f, Group 3 Chester Vase - Good to Firm, Good in Places

A winner on good to firm ground last year and with today's step up in distance Doctor Freemantle looks to have everything in his favour to run a massive race. Sir Michael Stoutes 3 year olds are a force to be reckoned with and with Ryan Moore up, you just have to get on. Progressive as a two year old, K. Abdulla's bay colt would have made a winning start to 2008 if she hadnt have run into the high class, Bronze Cannon. (Early Price 7/4)
WON 11/8F

Impressive performance from an impressive colt that must surely now go to Epsom? A 1/2l victory doesn't sound that great, but when our selection missed the break, was anchored last for a long time and then came through traffic to get a run up the inside, this was a performance to enjoy. Add that to the fact that the front two pulled 5l's clear of the well thought of Pampas Cat, then today's second All the Aces might also be one to put in the notebook.
