18 Jul 2008

Friday Double...

Southwell 14:55 - Timetwogo
3m 2f, Class 4 Maiden Chase, Good to Firm, Good in Places

McCoy teaming up with Donald McCain junior is something that strikes the eye in what looks a fairly weak race. As we know the trainer does particularly well with staying chases of this type. A staying on 2nd last time out and with nothing else in the field appearing to stay all that well, The Analyst takes this bay gelding by Double Trigger to do the business here.
(Early Price 5/2)
WON 5/2

Newmarket 19:50 - Love Galore
1m 2f, Class 3 Handicap, Good, Good to Firm in Places

Last time outs effort at Newmarket just over a week ago puts this son of Galileo bang in the picture for tonight's affair. Ignore his run at Royal Ascot - the trip was too short, the trainer couldn't be in better nick at the moment and the horse itself has run well at the track both times he has run.
(Early Price 11/4)
2ND 2/1F

17 Jul 2008

Thursday Double...

Cartmel 15:40 - City Affair
2m 1f, Class 4 Begginers' Chase - Good

Richard Johnson has been on fire as of late and can add to his recent 25% strike rate with another winner at Cartmel today. He team's up with a trainer to keep an eye on, Tim Vaughn aboard the consistent City Affair. Yet to get off the mark over fences, this tough 7 year old has lost nothing in defeat against decent types and should gain compensation today. (Early Price 11/10)
4TH 6/4f

Leicester 15:50 - Pampas Cat
1m 1f, Class 3 Conditions Stakes - Good

On ratings this looks like the easiest opportunity in a while for John Gosden's Pampas Cat to get back in the winners circle and therefore this is just too good a bet to miss. This talented 3 year old, wasn't disgraced in a class 1 event at Royal Ascot and with today's course and conditions sure to suit, he can get the better of the potentially decent Ancient Lights, who maybe the one for the forecast. (Early Price 11/8)
WON 8/11f

16 Jul 2008

Wednesday Double...

Catterick 14:30 - Solo Attempt
7f, Class 5 Novices' Auction Stakes - Good

Right, time to get serious! After a lean spell for the Analyst he is determined to turn the corner and get back amongst the winners and that search begins in the 14:30 at Catterick. Solo Attempt is an interesting type, for a trainer that is RED HOT at present!! A good winner of a 6f event at Kempton, this 2 year old filly is sure to improve again and will be suited by today's step up to 7. Greg Fairley is booked and looks well placed to ride his 39th winner of the season. (Early Price 5/2)
WON 5/2

Lingfield 15:20 - Swingkeel
2m, Class 5 Handicap - Standard (Turf: Good to Firm)

Swingkeel can get off the mark at the 6th time of asking today by landing the Class 5 staying handicap on Lingfield's card this afternoon. A decent 3rd last time out, behind a nice type of Jane Chapple-Hyam's and a previous Analyst winner, Spring Dream, Swingkeel will take all the beating today. In need of today's step up in trip, John Dunlop and Eddie Ahern can combine to land the odds. (Early Price 2/1)
WON 2/1

DOUBLE WON 10/1

15 Jul 2008

Tuesday E/W Double...

Brighton 15:00 - Magical Speedfit
5f, Class 5 Handicap - Good to Firm

Magical Speedfit is a consistent type who always runs his race. unlucky not to have more bold type against his name, George Margarson's gelding can notch up another win today at the venue of his only career success to-date, Brighton. Horses for course at the Sussex track, makes today's selection the one to be on and with the drop to 5f in his favour I expect him to take all the beating. (Early Price 6/1)
UP

Yarmouth 20:50 - Cossack Prince
1m 6f, Class 5 Handicap - Good to Firm

We head to the lucky last at Yarmouth this evening to try and land today's double. The trip looks ideal for Brain Meehans 3 year old as he looks to notch a 2ND career win on his 9th outing. A decent 2ND at Warwick last time, Cossack Prince beat a useful yardstick in the Pat Eddery trained Lapina into 3rd that day and has actually been dropped 2lb for a solid showing. Kevin Shea is an interesting jockey booking and this looks a bet too good to miss. (Early Price 9/2)

14 Jul 2008

Monday Double...

Newton Abbot 15:50 - Kaldouas
3m 2f, Class 3 Handicap Chase, Good

A winner last time out over two and a half miles and under the champ, we pick Mr. Nicholls' runner to do the job this afternoon. The black gelding has yet to prove he stays this distance but you could only be impressed by the way he demolished his opposition last time out. He does however carry top weight and there are a couple of elder statesmen in the line up who have proved they do get this trip, but their time must surely have past. Our selection should have the class to prevail. (Early Price 5/2)

Newton Abbot 16:20 - Akram
2m 1f, Class 4 Handicap Hurdle, Good

We're hoping A P McCoy brings home the double today onboard Akram, another last time out winner under the champ! With some very useful flat form to his name a few seasons back, this bay gelding by Night Shift holds outstanding claims in this line up. Last time outs victory would have been a confidence booster as he looks to double up today. (Early Price 11/8)

10 Jul 2008

Friday Double...

Newmarket 14:00 - Managua

7f, Class 1 Wetherby's Stakes (Group 2) - Good to Soft

Mick Channon sends out the talented 2 year old Managua in an attempt to win the Wetherby's Stakes Group 2 on day three of the July meeting at Newmarket. An impressive, improver when landing a Class 4 over today's trip at Sandown, this likeable colt looks certain to improve again and has ideal under foot conditions to run a massive race. With the form of both his two starts working out well, he is taken to give the Dazzler a great ride and The Analyst a "Massive" priced winner. (Early Price 8/1)

Ascot 15:35 - Kalahari Gold

7f, Class 3 Handicap - Good to Soft

The in-form Andrew Balding saddles Kalahari Gold for his Handicap bow at Ascot this afternoon. An impressive winner of his maiden at Sailsbury (The 2nd that day has since come out and won at Lingfield) Balding's gelding looks well treated here and can follow up under conditions that are sure to suit. William Buick follows this 3 year old to Ascot rather than stay at HQ where he was so impressive aboard another Balding horse Donegal yesterday. (Early Price 5/2)

9 Jul 2008

Thursday Double...

Newmarket 14:00 - Effort
6f, Class 1 July Stakes (Group 2) - Soft

For me, The Mark Johnston trained Effort ticks all the boxes required to win a tough looking "July Stakes" on day 2 of the rather wet looking meeting at HQ. After an impressive debut at Carlisle, the chestnut colt has put in two more solid performances, non more so than when a close up 4Th (of 25) in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot. Sure to be suited by both the step up in trip and the cut in the ground, Effort is the confident selection for a yard that's back amongst the winners (Early Price 9/2)
UP

Newmarket 15:45 - Ouqba
6f, Class 2 Novices' Stakes - Soft

Could this be one for Ted Rogers, as The Analyst hopes Ouqba will go 3-2-1 and land the 15:45 at Newmarket? Decent efforts in two hot Maidens means that Barry Hills colt has lost nothing in defeat. With various winners coming out of both races, Ouqba can gain compensation today and a valuable Class 2 over the ideal trip of 6 furlongs. The new-comer Maxwell Hawke could give our selection most to do however The Analyst thinks that Richard Hills mount will be 1st past the post and leave all his rivals well and truly in a dusty bin! (Early Price 15/8)
WON 7/4

8 Jul 2008

Wednesday Double...

Newmarket 15:10 - Infallible
1m, Class 1 Falmouth Stakes (Group 1) - Good

Back to his beloved Newmarket, Infallible can continue John Gosden's recent good form my bagging another Group 1 for the Manton based trainer. This is a high class field however with Darjina holding her ground, our selection gets in off a nice looking weight receiving 10lb from 7 exposed looking rivals. Horses for courses at HQ so Infallible gets our vote to set the daily double on fire! (Early Price 9/2)
2ND 7/2

Catterick 17:15 - Woody Waller
1m 5f, Class 5 Maiden Stakes - Good to Soft

Woody Waller was a decent staying on 2ND at Hamilton last time over an inadequate trip. Bread to stay, Howard Johnson's chestnut gelding is with the right stable to come on for that run and gain victories over extended trips and today looks the ideal opportunity. Henry Cecil has interesting entry in the shape of Marie Louise who first time out was an eye catching 5TH behind Derby 2ND Tartan Bearer however his reappearance at Lingfield was disappointing and it is not definite that these extreme distances really suit. (Early Price 7/4)

WON 13/8

Tuesday E/W Double...

Pontefract 14:30 - Red Cell E/W
6f, Class 4 Handicap - Good

Red Cell looks nicely treated for it's handicap bow and with the ground conditions and step up to 6f in his favour the recently gelded 2 year old looks to have an outstanding chance at a massive price. Chris Catlin is a positive jockey booking having ridden Red Cell in all of his 3 previous starts. (Early Price 10/1)
UP

Pontefract 15:00 - London Bid E/W
1m 2f, Class 5 Maiden Stakes - Good

London Bid would not have to be a world beater to making a winning debut and take the 15:00 contest for the irrepressible combination of Sir Michael Stoute and Ryan Moore. This fillies' breeding is to die for out of Sadler's Wells and Rainbow Quest and will certainly be suited by this staying trip and the cut in the ground. Siyabona for Goldophin looks exposed already and not one of the brightest stars for the boys in blue. Gifted Leader may give our selection the most to do for the inform, Pat Eddery yard. (Early Price 5/1)

7 Jul 2008

Monday E/W Double...

Windsor 19:00 - Daily Double E/W
6f, Class 5 Maiden Stakes - Good to Soft

Well, we couldn't not back it could we!! Regardless of the fact that "Daily Double" is running for the most feared combination on a Monday night at Windsor, he is a well bread colt full of promise and should be tuned up ready to do himself justice tonight. For future refernce, this is a hot looking maiden, with plenty of good types likely to emerge. (Early Price 13/2)
UP

Windsor 21:00 - Spirit of Adjisa
1m 3f, Class 4 Handicap - Good to Soft

Consistent and tough, Spirit of Adjisa has risen through the grades and shown more than enough in this class to warrant winning a race of thi nature in conditions that look ideal. Stepping up to a 1m & 3f and with some expected cut in the ground Pat Eddery's charge should take all the beating tonight. (Early Price 5/1)
UP

4 Jul 2008

Friday Double....

Sandown 14:50 - April Pride
5f, Class 1 Listed Stakes - Good to Firm

A few interesting ones here in the line up, no more so than April Pride who ran 3l 5th to
Cuis Ghaire in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot. That was over a furlong further but the way
Richard Hannons' filly ran - leading for most of the contest before fading in the latter stages doesn't put me off backing her over a fulong shorter today. That is the only group form offered in the race and it should be good to to repel the likely challenge of Moss Likely
(Beat the selection 2 starts back at Newbury). This stiffer 5 furlongs should be spot on for our girl! (Early Price 9/4)
2ND

Sandown 16:00 - Stage Gift
1m 2f, Class 1 Listed Stakes - Good to Firm

The Analyst sees this race revolving around 'The Boys in Blues' and thier charge Stage Gift. If he is fit after a lengthy absense then he will be mighty hard to beat. With strong "winning" group form to his name this chestnut gelding, formally with Sir Michael Stoute looks well in here and should hold too many guns. Obvious dangers are Spanish Moon who you have to forgive a poor run last time in the Hardwicke and Many Volumes who appears to have a touch of seconditis! (Early Price 9/4)

3 Jul 2008

Thursday Double...

Newbury 19:25 - Saucy Brown
5f, Class 1 Listed Stakes - Good to Firm

Saucy Brown was a close up 5th when staying-on in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot. Slowly away and badly drawn that day, tonights contest looks an easier task and The Hannon & Moore factor make this 2 year old a worthy favourite. Saucy Brown is taken to get the better of the talented Cerito. (Early Price 15/8)
2ND 6/4F

Newbury 19:55 - Atlantic Sport
7f, Class 3 Conditions Stakes - Good to Firm

The potentially "high class" Atlantic Sport has not been rushed after a quiet, yet impressive start to his racing career as two year old. A gutsy winning performance on debut was followed up by a decent 6th in a grade one contest. The Maiden form has worked out brilliantly with the 3rd that day, Aqlaam since going on to win the Jersey stakes at Royal Ascot just 3 weeks ago. Coming from the Mick Channon yard there will be no question over his fitness and this looks the ideal opportunity to get off the mark as a 3 year old. 15/8 may just look a massive price come 20:00 this evening. (Early Price 15/8)
WON EVSF

15/8 was too BIG!!

2 Jul 2008

Wednesday Double...

Perth 14:50 - Newbay Bob
2m 4f, Class 4 Novices' Handicap Chase - Good

Unlucky not to get off the mark on his first start in Britain, this former Irish staying chaser will make amends today under our old favourite, Denis O'Regan. Dropped in class and with a slight ease in the going this 8 year old gelding is the one to be on! (Early Price 4/1)

Worcester 15:10 - Charmahal
2m, Class 5 Novices' Handicap Chase - Good to Firm

60% strike rate for the trainer and 35% for the Jockey in the last 14 days makes Charmahal for in-form combination of Jonjo O'Neill & A P McCoy impossible to oppose today. Having run decent races it better grades, I expect AP to make full use of his gelding and see off the weak looking opposition in the lower class 5 contest today. (Early Price 11/4)

1 Jul 2008

Tuesday Double...

Thirsk 19:50 - Almoutaz
1m, Class 4 Handicap Stakes - Good to Firm

A winner when last seen in this grade, Almoutaz has since chanced his arm in some decent contests only to be found wanting over a variety of trips. Dropped back down to a mile and on ground that will be more to his liking, this Barry Hills colt whom despite having to give weight all round, should return to the winners enclosure tonight at the expense of the consistent Montiboli. (Early Price 6/1)
2ND 5/1

The shortest of short heads away from a 5/1 winner, never the less a great weight carrying performance from Almoutaz, who was beaten by King Fingal who had 8lb's less on his back.

Lingfield 20:00 - Yankee Storm
6f, Class 4 Handicap - Standard

Mark Johnston & Ryan Moore team up on Yankee Storm, who looks a good thing in today's class 4 contest. A repeat performance of his decent 2ND to the prolific Money Monster in a class 3 at Great Leighs last time would be easily good enough to take this and the Middleham based trainer looks to have placed his colt superbly in a weak looking heat. 11/4 looks just too good to miss! Get On! (Early Price 11/4)
3RD 11/4F

Missed the break, and although running on at the end the damage was done at the start!
