Chester 14:45 - Red Gala E/W
1m 5f, Class 1 Ormonde Stakes - Good to Firm
Sir Michael Stoute knows what it takes to win this race and looks to follow up his 2007 success with a repeat in 2008 with Red Gala. With the perfect jockey on board (Jamie Spencer) this tough 5 year old will relish the firmer ground and the extra furlong on offer today. Certain to run his race and with some of his rivals likely to cut each others throats up front, I can see a classic Spencer ride bringing our selection through late and fast to at least make the frame.
4TH 9/2
The Analyst never comes on here and bemoans the fact that we were "un-lucky" or we "should have won" we just tell it exactly as it is. "We should have won it!" NO... Macartur is an extremely talented if a some what temperamental beast, "un-lucky?" Well maybe a tad, but these things can happen in such tough races. Staying on at the end much like we forecast, Red Gala was wound up to make a charge 2 out, but met traffic problems and didn't get going until it was too late. The winner is class, but Red Gala is a decent yardstick too and will win his fair share of races this season.
Chester 15:15 - Rose Siog E/W
5f, Class 2 Handicap - Good to Firm
Rose Siog was the model of consistency last year only finishing out of the frame once in 5 starts. A very decent 3rd of 16 behind Mey Blossom (6lbs better of with the winner today) on her reappearance in 2008, Richard Fahey's charge looks well treated to run another solid race. With the ground (won one firm ground at Musselburgh last August) and trip ideal, and a return to a smaller field in her favour, this all adds up to make our selection the one to beat.
UP 11/2
Another hard luck story? No, beaten over 7l's tells us what we need to know, but this was a muddling affair and Rose Siog was sent very wide when trying to get in the mixer. Look busy was the surprise 16/1 winner of a race that wasn't a classic by any stretch of the imagination.
